The 15 miles round trip along the Nene Valley Railway passes through the delightful Nene Park, from the eastern terminus at Peterborough, past the Railway's headquarters at Wansford Station, into the haunted Wansford tunnel, and finally to the tranquil setting of Yarwell Junction.
Wansford Station - the home of a unique collection of historic locomotives and coaches from many parts of Europe and the UK. The loco yard and new station building incorporating the Ticket Office, Cafe, Gift and Book Shop, are open most days throughout the year. The Museum is normally open on operating days, as is the Railway Letter Service and secondhand bookshop.
Yarwell Junction - there is no platform at Yarwell, and passengers may not alight here. It is the site of a junction which made the Nene Valley line a very important cross country through route. The line west went to Market Harborough and Rugby, whilst the more southerly line headed to Wellingborough and Northampton.
Ferry Meadows and Orton Mere - alight at these stations for the many attractions associated with a country park, including children's play areas, a miniature railway, water sports, cycle hire, nature trails, bird hides, pony rides and boat trips. There is a picnic site, shop, cafe, and a visitor centre at Ferry Meadows. A pleasant walk of about 25 minutes through the park joins the two stations.
Peterborough - passengers may alight to watch the locomotive as it runs round its train, or occasionally pauses under the water column as it replenishes its tanks. Peterborough NVR station is only a 21 minute walk from the city centre.
Passengers may visit RAILWORLD , a small independant attraction next to NVR. Displays include 'Rail and the Environment' with an impressive model railway, 'Global Rail Travel', 'Rail Industry Showcase', and 'Local Railway History'. There are other exhibits about train travel worldwide, past and present, including Locomotives and a new Hoverail Vehicle and track.
Special Events - a regular feature of the timetable, including 'Thomas' and 'Santa Special' events. Details of all events are given in the timetable - see 'Opening Times' below.
