The two girls pictured above are Sarah Matilda Ann (Tilly) and Florence Jane (Florrie). They were the eldest daughters of John Brown Spendlove and his wife, Sarah Jane, née Herd.
They came to live at Laxton Cottage with their grandmother Ruth Spendlove in 1897, after their father died.
