The Manse and Ivernia Cottage

The Manse

This cottage, in Maltings Road, became the manse for the Baptist Church in 1873, after being bequeathed in her will by Mrs Jane Brown, who, with her husband John, had run the Hatton Arms for many years.

Pictured in the above photograph is the Rev McPhail, the Baptist Minister from 1889 to 1908.

After being sold to Mr and Mrs Pick, who also ran the Hatton Arms, it was renamed "Ivernia Cottage", after the ship in which Mr Pick served during the First World War.
